How to Beat Fiena in Garden of Witches

The drunk witch in the greenhouse is the fight that teaches whether you dash on schedule.

How to Beat Fiena

Fiena is the first named duel most Garden of Witches players remember. Sil yells that the tea party is already late. Fiena smiles through a hookah haze in a greenhouse that is also an arena. She is not the hardest witch in the game. She is the witch who sorts people who mash Scissors from people who treat the dash as a health bar.

If you came here from a search for how to beat Fiena, you do not need a 100k Slash burst. You need the 1.0 verbs: dash i-frames, one Spell you will actually press, and a fountain habit. Broader tells for later witches live on the boss guide. Her portrait and domain sit on Fiena’s page. Chapter order sits on the walkthrough.

The video in the middle is a long demo-era session that keeps retrying Fiena and then Abigail. The greenhouse layout, the “die, spend a level, walk back in” loop, and the way the first boss teaches dash timing still match 1.0. The tag lecture does not. Ignore six-of-one-tag advice and read combat after you watch her slam the floor once.

What Fiena is actually testing

  • Dash on the wind-up. I-frames exist to pass through a cone, not to panic after you are already burning. If you only dash after the petal hits, you will call the fight unfair.
  • Do not finish a Scissors string into a slam. 1.0 made combo finishers matter by giving default and Giant Scissors a crit on the last hit. That crit is bait when the greenhouse is about to explode.
  • One Spell is enough. Ambush if you want Sharpness and a teleport. Fireball if you want a Charge poke. Counter if you can see a tell and you like a 17-second button. Two Spells that both need a 12-second window will overlap and you will press neither.
  • Fountain heal is a mechanic. Twenty HP before Fiena is often more damage than an 8% Relic you will not live to use. The getting started page is blunt about this for a reason.

Fiena’s greenhouse is a small arena with plant cover, petal cones, and a second wind that looks like a personality shift. Players in later chapters ask Abigail if this is “the real Fiena.” The fight is designed so you learn to stop attacking when the portrait or the floor changes. Phase greed is how first-hour runs die with a full Slash charge.

A first-hour kit that can beat her

Do not wait for Singing Scissors. Do not wait for a perfect Relic. Leave Sil’s house with:

  1. Default Scissors or Giant Scissors. Default crits on the last hit of a combo. Giant hits harder and plays around Sharpness. Either is enough. Rank them later on the scissors tier list.
  2. Ambush or Fireball. Ambush teleports behind a nearby enemy and feeds Sharpness — good if you keep planting your feet. Fireball is the Charge carry if you would rather poke from a petal-safe angle.
  3. Counter as the second Spell if the first is damage. It is a long cooldown. It is also the button that turns a telegraph you can see into a huge hit. If you cannot see tells yet, skip it and take a simpler dump Spell.

The Armory planner calls this “story carry.” That is the point. Fiena is chapter one. A Challenge Mode Giant/Ambush/Slash burst is a later sentence.

Pattern language without a parse

Treat her like a person with a cone, not like a loot piñata.

  • Petal / flower cones. Dash through, do not walk out. Walking out is how you eat the edge.
  • Close-range giggle into slam. Stop the Scissors string. The last hit of a combo is not worth the knockdown.
  • Add-ons / greenhouse trash. Clear enough to see the floor. Do not spend your only dash on a grub if Fiena is winding up.
  • Phase change. If the music, the portrait, or a full-screen flash hits, you are in the second conversation. Spend the dash. Spend Counter if you have it. Do not dump Fireball into a cut.

Abigail is the next named farm. If Fiena took you six attempts, that is the design. Meta EXP from combat (cap 70 after 0.9.2) is doing work in the background. A failed run is a loadout note, not a wipe. Return to the cottage, spend the level, change one slot, walk back in.

Controls that make the greenhouse fair

1.0 defaults to keyboard and mouse with free aiming. If Fiena feels unhittable, confirm you are not on the old keyboard-only facing scheme by accident. Bind dash to a key you can hit while greedy. The controls page lists mouse, keyboard-only, pad, and Deck. Fiena on a Steam Deck is fine; frame time is the real i-frame killer, so drop effects if the greenhouse particle storm stutters.

After she sits down

You did not kill the coven. You beat a witch until she agreed to tea. Chapter two is Abigail’s farm and a sickle that punishes the same greed Fiena just taught you. If the greenhouse still feels like a wall after a dozen attempts, drop difficulty one notch and keep the same kit — Normal is the intended teach. Hard is not a badge for chapter one.

When Fiena is a memory, use this page as a template for later witches: dash on the wind-up, one identity, fountain if you are one mistake from dying. Then graduate to the boss guide and the epilogues. Maydel will not care that you learned to clip petals. She will care that you can clear a wave before the clock.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Garden of Witches 1.0.

Can you beat Fiena on the first Garden of Witches run?

Rarely on Normal or higher. Meta levels and dash memory are part of the design. Retry the same greenhouse with one kit change.

What is the easiest kit to beat Fiena?

Default or Giant Scissors plus Ambush or Fireball. See the Armory planner story-carry row.

Is Fiena the final boss?

No. She is the first named witch. The campaign runs through Nahatra and three epilogues.

Should I fight Fiena on Hard for the first clear?

No. Normal is the teach. Hard can strip comfort, including dash rules on some cards. Read the in-game tooltip.
