Garden of Witches Boss Guide

Read the floor, spend the dash, then make the witch sit down for tea.

Boss Guide

Every Garden of Witches boss is a person first. The HP bar is how Sil negotiates. If you treat these fights like generic roguelike elites, chapter three will humble you. If you treat them like character duels with a dash button, they click.

This page is pattern language, not a DPS parse. Pair it with the walkthrough for chapter order and with combat for Sharpness and Charge. Named bios live on the witch roster.

Shared boss rules

  • Dash on the wind-up. I-frames exist to pass through cones, not to panic after you are already burning.
  • Do not finish a Scissors string into a slam. Combo crits are bait when the floor is about to explode.
  • Fountain heal is a mechanic. Twenty HP before a boss is often more damage than a 10% Relic you will not live to use.
  • Phase changes eat greed. If a portrait cut or a full-screen flash happens, spend the dash, not the Fireball.
  • Minions are the fight. Fiena’s beetles, Abigail’s extra projectiles, swamp waves — clear or ignore on purpose. Accidental ignore is how you die in a corner.

Fiena

Fiena is the drunk witch in the greenhouse. The scene is almost cozy: hookah, mushrooms, beetle-creatures in a circle. The fight is not. She is slower than later bosses, which tricks people into standing still. Her satellites — chasing butterflies, thorn lines, delayed pops — are the damage. When she smiles, look at the floor.

Plan: Ambush or any gap-closer to stay on her body between satellite waves. Save dash for the delayed explosion, not for her walk. After the win she is still Fiena. That is the joke and the point.

Abigail

Pumpkin Witch, farm, scarecrow silhouette, sickle. Team Tapas designed her around crows and solitude. In the arena that becomes wide 90-degree slashes, extra fireballs, and a gift-box cast you should interrupt. If the box finishes, you get a slow flame you did not want.

Plan: stay off the sickle’s front cone. Magic Scissors and other piercing tools clip her through the farm clutter. A Counter window is luxurious here if you have learned the 0.4-second block. Do not greed Sharpness during the fireball fan.

Rims & Berry

Pink, loud, and a two-body problem even when the camera is looking at one of them. The love-letter cutscene is cute. The fight punishes single-target kits. If your only Spell is a hard lock on “strongest enemy,” the other body will finish a cast.

Plan: bring a slash, a ground field, or Magic Scissors pierce. Dash through overlapping cones rather than out of the arena. If you only have single-target, kill in a strict order and never chase the one that just vanished off-screen.

Later-chapter book-and-spider fight

Steam’s most shared boss screenshot is a many-eyed spider chassis, a witch with a book, and a floor made of fire. Reviewers called the chapter-three-plus spike “almost bullet hell.” That is this fight’s family even if hotfixes change the exact HP.

Plan:

  1. Prioritize safe tiles over damage.
  2. Do not channel a Spell if the next fire wave is already drawn.
  3. Use Special Skill at the phase change, not at 90% HP.
  4. If your dash cooldown is still unmodified, you are not ready — go buy cooldown or pick Counter.
  5. Read curses in the Book. A curse that hits dash recovery is a wipe waiting to happen.

Nahatra

The Dream Witch is the reason the tea party exists. Her domain is the Garden. Player reports from the Early Access finale describe a two-phase structure and a second form that does not look like the greenhouse witches. Treat anything you saw in a 2025 clip as mood, not gospel — 1.0’s Epilogue 3 is the current ending, and Team Tapas spent a year rewriting systems under her.

Plan: full imprint, not a mixed kit. Follow best builds. Spend Relics on survival if you have not seen the second phase yet. The first time you fight her, your job is to live long enough to memorize one new tell. The second time is for damage.

Maydel (Epilogue 1)

Maydel is a swamp, a clock, and waves. She is not a corridor boss. Mid-bosses rotate in. Faster clears pay better. After you help her, Singing Scissors unlock. That gift is the real loot table.

Plan: build for AoE and cooldown. Giant Scissors plus a field Spell is comfortable. Single-target Charge kits feel slow on the clock. If you are hunting the extra reward, watch the timer more than Maydel’s HP.

Challenge Mode bosses

Challenge Mode reuses witches with worse numbers and less forgiveness. Some layouts add extra floors. Dash i-frames may be reduced or removed depending on the modifier you queued — read the in-game card, not this sentence, before you assume you can still panic-roll. Score kits (Giant Scissors / high Sharpness / burst Slash in older patches) are documented on Challenge Mode and best builds.

A boring checklist that wins fights

  • Enter at full HP or admit you are scouting.
  • One dash reserved at all times.
  • One Spell reserved for the slam, not for the add.
  • After a death, change one thing: a Relic, a bind, or a fountain policy.
  • If you died to the floor, you did not need more damage.

Sil is trying to gather a coven, not to farm a raid. When the boss finally sits down, you have not executed them. You have convinced them. Play the fight that way and the patterns read as conversation instead of noise. For more on who they are when they are not a HP bar, open the witch roster and Nahatra’s page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Garden of Witches 1.0.

Who is the first boss in Garden of Witches?

Fiena, the drunk witch in the greenhouse, is the first named duel most players fight. Details are in the walkthrough.

Why do later bosses feel like a bullet hell?

Chapter three onward stacks overlapping cones and floor hazards. Dash cooldown and i-frames matter more than raw Scissors damage. See combat.

Should I heal or upgrade at the fountain?

Heal if you are below half or about to fight a named witch you have not learned. Upgrade if an Imprint is one pick away.

Does Challenge Mode change boss patterns?

It changes numbers, modifiers, and sometimes room count. Learn the story fight first on the Challenge Mode page.
