Garden of Witches Chloe
A witch reading a book while the floor burns. The Steam screenshot everyone shares when they warn you about chapter four.
Chloe is the witch who appears in chapter four of Garden of Witches, after Rims & Berry and before Nahatra. She is the reason Steam screenshots of this game show a many-eyed spider-like construct, a witch calmly reading a book, and a floor that is entirely on fire. Reviewers called this fight “almost bullet hell.” They were not wrong.
This page is the character. Pattern language is on the boss guide. Chapter order is the walkthrough.
Who she is in the coven
Chloe’s role in the coven lore is not explicitly stated in the main five-chapter spine. She appears in the later roster, and community translations suggest she is associated with knowledge or reading — the book is not decorative. The construct she summons during combat is a many-eyed spider chassis that fills the floor with fire patterns.
Unlike Fiena (drunk garden host), Abigail (solitary farmer), or Rims & Berry (chaos twins), Chloe’s personality is calm in the face of combat. She reads. The floor tries to kill you. She is unbothered.
Why this fight is the difficulty spike
The chapter four fight is where the game stops being a roguelite with pretty art and starts being an action game with a demanding defense check. The floor is not decoration — it is the second HP bar. Standing still is not an option between cones.
Key pressure points:
- Floor fire patterns — learn the safe tiles, not the danger tiles
- Book lasers — the construct reads and fires; watch for the page turn
- Many-eyed construct — the spider chassis has multiple weak points that fire independently
- No safe downtime — unlike Fiena or Abigail, Chloe’s arena does not give you standing room to wait out cooldowns
How to actually beat her
The combat guide has the full dash philosophy. For Chloe specifically:
- Prioritize safe tiles over damage. Your HP bar is a mistake budget. Do not spend it on greed.
- Do not channel a Spell if the next fire wave is already drawn. Walking away from your own Blood Marble is better than standing in it while dodging.
- Use Special Skill at the phase change, not at 90% HP. The phase change is when the construct reconfigures — that is the safe window.
- Dash cooldown must be upgraded. If your dash is still on the base cooldown, you are not ready. Buy cooldown or pick Counter.
- Check the Book for curses. A curse that hits dash recovery is a wipe waiting to happen. Wells can remove problem curses.
Build recommendations
The best builds page has completed kits. For Chloe specifically:
- Magic Scissors with Charge hold — mouse aiming lets you track the construct while dodging floor fire
- Giant Scissors with Ambush — if you can finish strings without getting hit, the Sharpness dump is worth it
- Counter as panic — the 0.4-second block is useful when a fire wave surprises you
Do not bring a mixed kit with no identity. Chloe punishes kits that have no plan beyond “press buttons.”
Where she sits in the guest list
- Chapter four, after Rims & Berry
- Before Nahatra in the main five-chapter spine
- Nahatra is the last witch before the epilogues
After Chloe agrees to tea, the main coven is nearly complete. Nahatra is next. Then Epilogues 1, 2, and 3 in 1.0. Then Challenge Mode.
